What is it?

Naturopathy, believed to be developed in the late 19th century and founded on an ancient belief, is the power of the body to heal itself. Naturopathy is also known as nature cure and it means a system of therapy in which the patient is treated without any use of remedies. Patients are required to adopt a healthy diet and have detoxification, exercise, massage, hydrotherapy, colour therapy and so forth to enable the body to fight against diseases and therefore maintain optimum health. It is also believed that an unhealthy life-style can easily disturb the body’s natural mechanism and can causes many diseases. Although naturopathic practitioners have not always used remedies taken by mouth, practitioners have since observed how herbal, biochemical and homeopathic remedies can cure as much as nature. They look for the underlying causes of a symptom rather than treating symptoms alone. Naturopaths usually use a combining diet and non-toxic therapies to speed up the healing process. Today naturopathy is widely practised in the western world and some of the Naturopathic principals are used with conventional methods. How does it work? During consultation a detailed assessment will take place where the patient is asked many questions about diet, lifestyle, physiological state, physical state, personal life and about environmental exposures and any medication taken to enable the practitioner to prepare an individual health plan for his/her patient to help them to enhance their optimum health to heal the body and bring its vital force back to its place. Following this an appropriate physical examination may take place if necessary.
