Traditional Chinese Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has developed over the past 3000 years. Although it is often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well-being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.

How does it work?
Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese philosophy which believes that our health is based on the body’s own motivating energy (known as Qi) moving in a smooth and balanced way thorough a network of channels. Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities (Yin and Yang) and when these become unbalanced, illness may result. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific locations just below the skin which are then left in place for up to 30 minutes. This regulates the flow of Qi through the body’s channels which helps to promote the body’s own healing response and restore harmony. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, fear, anger, or grief, poor nutrition and lifestyle, weather and environmental conditions, infections, trauma, and hereditary factors.
Some research work in Sweden has shown that when an acupuncture needle is inserted, messages are sent to the brain, which responds by encouraging certain natural chemical reactions to take place producing muscle relaxants, painkillers, and anti-inflammatories.
Acupuncture pays a vital role in pain relief, it can be a little uncomfortable, but is not normally painful.

Testimonials
I was recommended by a friend to see Jethro Rowland about my migraine in the summer of 2008. I was told he might be able to help me with my ongoing problem that I had been experiencing for about two years, and was making my life hell. I had heard about acupuncture, but knew very little about it; apart from that they stick needles in you. I had no idea it could treat migraine. I must admit that I was very skeptical, and very nervous about having needles stuck in me, and talking to a stranger about my condition. However nothing I had tried worked. I tried various tablets that I got from my Doctor, but nothing seemed to work. I was given amatriptalin as a last resort, which I really didn’t like the idea of, and it made me feel sick and nauseous.
I was getting migraine about twice a week, a very bad pain above my right eye that extended sometimes to the top of my right head. I often felt sick, and when I didn’t have a migraine, I would often have a headache. The migraines were getting worse and seemed often seemed to happen just before my period. I was tired all the time, had very poor sleep and often I would feel wound up and irritable at the slightest thing, I also felt cold most of the time, even when it was hot.
The day I went to see Jethro, I didn’t know what to expect, but he was very laid back and informal. He started by explaining what acupuncture is, how it works and what I should expect. Within minutes I felt more comfortable, and it was great to talk to someone who seemed to take a genuine interest in me, and seemed to know what he was talking about. He took quite a long case history, and asked me all kind of questions about my health, diet, and lifestyle. After which he looked at my tongue, and felt my pulses. What amazed me was the way Jethro seemed to be able to explain what was going on. He explained about Chi energy, and how my liver energy was stuck, and not moving. He talked about Yin and Yang, and meridians. Much of what he said didn’t make much sense at the time, but since doing my own research in the internet, it all now makes perfect sense.
When he put the needles I was surprised at how quick and painless it was. He then left me to relax, during which time a felt a deep sense of peace and relaxation takeover. When he came and took the needles out, about half an hour later, I felt amazingly relaxed and light. The next day was wonderful, I felt like my old self again.
That week I had no migraines, and only one mild headache towards the end of the week. I had a total of six weekly sessions of acupuncture, since then I have only had about two migraines. My energy levels improved after about 3 sessions. I felt so much better emotionally and physically. Also I didn’t feel cold anymore, which was wonderful
I still don’t really know how or why acupuncture works, but touch wood it has worked for me, and the money and time was the best investment I have ever made. I’ve not looked back.
